I found the discussion of the multi-genre research paper beneficial. I agree with the artcile in that providing choice and freedom how to address a sceince problem, then sudnet will own thier work and grow. I saw this in my studnet teaching. When I designed assignments that asked the students to design something, the engagment factor rose dramatically and the interest in the topic was heightened because the students knew that they could display their understading of the topic any way they wanted – they owned it. I think this idea of using multiple forms of text along with opportunities for students to own something needs to be injected within the science classroom.
